  • “He showed the words ‘chocolate cake’ to a group of Americans and recorded their word associations. “Guilt” was the top response. If that strikes you as unexceptional, consider the response of French eaters to the same prompt: ‘celebration.’”

    for the record

“jihad” literally means “the spiritual struggle within oneself against sin”

and the Qur’an has multiple passages directly opposing

    • killing innocent people  (Qur’an 5: 32)
    • killing children  (Qur’an 6: 151)
    • prejudice against a group of people (Qur’an 5: 8)
    • sexism  (Qur’an 49: 13)
    • racism (Qur’an 30: 22)

so let’s all agree that “muslim” and “terrorist” are antonyms and radical islam is exactly as dangerous as radical groups of any religion

  • “

“The doctor sits me on a table and asks me to stick out my tongue.
    I do.

I ask him if he sees the paintings I carry in the back of my throat.
He laughs as if I’m telling a joke,
    I’m not.

I’ve got Basquiat, Schiele, Van Gogh, and Da Vinci
so when I laugh, I taste brushstrokes.

I ask him if he can stick out his tongue
so I can see what he has trapped inside of him.

He hesitates a little then he does and I see a man who
struggles for acceptance and chokes on the word
    Love.”
